TOR receives one million barrels of ‘Bonga Crude’ for refining operations

Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) has announced the arrival of approximately one million barrels of Bonga Crude Oil aboard the MT Cap Felix as part of its refinery revitalisation and crude processing programme.

According to the refinery, the crude cargo was purchased from Shell and supplied through TOR’s tolling partner, Fujeirah/Triangle Commodities Trading (TCT).

In a statement, TOR said the latest crude oil delivery forms part of ongoing efforts to restore stable refining activities and strengthen Ghana’s energy security.

The refinery explained that the arrangement is also intended to support continuous petroleum product supply to the domestic market while reducing Ghana’s dependence on imported refined fuel products.

TOR described the arrival of the Bonga Crude shipment as another major milestone in its operational recovery strategy.

Bonga Crude is widely known for its low-sulphur quality and favourable refining yields, making it suitable for producing several premium petroleum products.

According to TOR, the crude is expected to produce significant volumes of:

  • Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)
  • Gasoline
  • Diesel
  • Kerosene
  • Aviation Turbine Kerosene (ATK)
  • Fuel oil

The refinery said the products would serve both domestic consumption and regional market demands.

Management of TOR expressed appreciation to the Government of Ghana, regulatory institutions, financial partners, and stakeholders for their support toward the refinery’s revival efforts.

The refinery further reaffirmed its commitment to operational excellence, transparency, environmental responsibility, and long-term sustainability.

TOR said it remains focused on transforming the facility into a competitive and commercially sustainable energy hub for Ghana and the wider West African region.

The company added that it would continue engaging stakeholders and updating the public as refinery operations progress.
