EOCO arrests former GIHOC MD Maxwell Kofi Jumah

The former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, has been arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged financial irregularities.

According to sources within EOCO, the arrest took place on Tuesday, April 28, following a raid on his private residence in Kumasi the previous week. He is currently being held in the custody of the anti-corruption agency as investigators continue their work.

Although official charges have not yet been formally announced, individuals familiar with the case indicate that the arrest forms part of a broader probe into suspected breaches of public financial management regulations during his tenure at GIHOC Distilleries.

Investigators are reportedly examining how certain state resources were managed and disbursed under his leadership, with a focus on possible violations of financial protocols governing public institutions. The inquiry is also expected to review procurement processes, expenditure patterns, and administrative decisions made during his time in office.

EOCO is believed to be widening its investigations to determine whether any misappropriation or misuse of public funds occurred, although the agency has not yet released an official statement detailing the full scope of the allegations.

The arrest of the former managing director has drawn public attention, given GIHOC Distilleries’ status as a key state-owned enterprise. The company plays a significant role in Ghana’s alcoholic beverage industry and is considered an important asset under state ownership.

As investigations continue, EOCO is expected to interrogate Mr. Jumah further and possibly engage additional witnesses and officials connected to the operations of the company during his tenure.

Authorities have urged the public to remain patient as due process is followed and the facts surrounding the case are fully established.
