Afoko meets other NPP aspirants and party executives

Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Awentami Paul Afoko, has met with fellow National Executive aspirants in Jamasi, located in the Ashanti Region, in a show of party solidarity during a time of mourning.

Mr. Afoko, who is seeking a second term as NPP National Chairman, visited Jamasi to offer condolences to Kwadwo Okyere Mpiani, a former Chief of Staff under President John Agyekum Kufuor, following the passing of his mother, Obaapa Elizabeth Owusu Kwaaso, at the age of 103.

The condolence gathering brought together several high-profile figures from the NPP who are also contesting the National Chairmanship. Among them were former National Organiser John Boadu, Ghanaian diplomat Edward Akwasi Boateng, former Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Stephen Asamoah Boateng, and former Energy Minister Agyarko Boakye Kyeremateng.

The gathering also provided an opportunity for interactions between Mr. Afoko and former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Observers noted the cordial exchanges, jokes, and laughter among the aspirants, suggesting that the spirit of unity and cohesion within the party may be returning ahead of the internal elections.

Each aspirant took turns expressing condolences to Mr. Mpiani and his family. The remains of Obaapa Elizabeth Owusu Kwaaso were interred at the family home following a requiem service held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Jamasi. Remarkably, she was only 18 years old when she gave birth to Mr. Mpiani, highlighting the long and impactful life she led.

The visit not only reaffirmed respect for the late matriarch but also underscored a sense of party unity, as National Executive aspirants momentarily set aside competition to pay tribute and strengthen bonds within the NPP.
