Agyarko bolsters NPP chairmanship bid with Henry Quartey and Osei-Owusu as campaign leads

Agyarko bolsters NPP chairmanship bid with Henry Quartey and Osei-Owusu as campaign leads

National Chairman aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko, has formally unveiled key figures to lead his campaign as the party prepares for its upcoming internal elections.

The announcement was made on April 3, 2026, during a strategic meeting with campaign volunteers, where efforts were focused on building a strong and effective party structure aimed at securing victory for Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2028 general elections.

In what is widely seen as a calculated move to strengthen his campaign machinery and consolidate support within party ranks, Agyarko appointed two seasoned political figures to top leadership roles within his campaign team.

He named Henry Quartey, a former Minister for the Interior, former Greater Accra Regional Minister, and former Member of Parliament for Ayawaso Central, as Campaign Manager. In addition, Joseph Osei-Owusu, popularly known as Joe Wise and a former First Deputy Speaker of Parliament as well as former Member of Parliament for Bekwai, has been appointed as Senior Campaign Advisor.

The selection of these two experienced political heavyweights signals Agyarko’s intention to run a well-organised, grassroots-driven campaign backed by strong institutional knowledge and political strategy. Both appointees bring decades of experience in governance, parliamentary leadership, and party organisation, positioning the campaign to effectively navigate internal party dynamics.

Henry Quartey and Joseph Osei-Owusu have both expressed strong confidence in Agyarko’s vision to rebuild, restructure, and rebrand the NPP ahead of the 2028 elections. Their endorsement reflects a broader effort to unify party structures and mobilise support across various levels of the party.

According to campaign spokesperson Vincent Frimpong Manu, the current appointments represent only the initial phase of a broader campaign strategy. He indicated that a comprehensive National Campaign Team—comprising experts in political strategy, research, communications, and operations—will be formally inaugurated in the coming weeks.

This expanded team is expected to play a critical role in shaping messaging, coordinating grassroots mobilisation, and strengthening the campaign’s nationwide reach.

Agyarko’s latest move underscores the intensifying competition within the NPP as aspirants position themselves for leadership roles that will shape the party’s direction and electoral fortunes in the lead-up to 2028.
