Armah-Kofi Buah has not resigned from GoldBod – Lands Ministry

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has rejected reports that Minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has resigned from the Board of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), describing the reports as false.

In a clarification issued on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, the Ministry said there had been no disagreement between the Minister and GoldBod.

“Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has not resigned from GoldBod, nor has there been any disagreement between him and the Ghana Gold Board,” the Ministry stated.

The Ministry explained that Mr Armah-Kofi Buah initially served on the GoldBod Board personally but later nominated the Ministry’s Chief Director, Marcus Haligah, to represent him from January 2026.

According to the Ministry, the decision was purely administrative and was necessitated by the Minister’s demanding schedule and responsibilities across two ministries.

It said the Minister was handling responsibilities across both ministries, making it increasingly difficult for him to personally attend all GoldBod board meetings and related engagements.

The Ministry said he therefore exercised the appropriate institutional arrangement by designating Mr Haligah, a senior official of the Ministry, to represent him on the Board.

The Lands Ministry said the arrangement is consistent with GoldBod’s governance framework, which allows designated representatives to serve on the Board on behalf of members where applicable.

The clarification follows a separate explanation issued by GoldBod concerning changes in the representation of government officials on its Board.

GoldBod previously confirmed that Mr Armah-Kofi Buah initially served on the Board personally before nominating Chief Director Marcus Haligah in January 2026 because of his schedule and inability to regularly attend meetings.

GoldBod has also explained that similar arrangements have been made by other government officials serving on the Board. The institution said such representation is consistent with the governance framework governing the Board.

The Lands Ministry therefore urged the public, media organisations and other stakeholders to disregard reports suggesting that the Minister resigned from GoldBod.

It also rejected suggestions that the decision to nominate a representative was connected to any disagreement, conflict or dissatisfaction between the Minister and the institution.

The Ministry maintained that Mr Haligah’s role on the Board is simply a representation arrangement intended to ensure continuity while allowing the Minister to manage his official responsibilities.

GoldBod has similarly rejected suggestions of internal disagreements linked to changes in Board representation, saying such arrangements should not be interpreted as evidence of a dispute involving the institution.
