Bawumia engages with British High Commissioner

Former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Mahamudu Bawumia, has held discussions with the British High Commissioner to Ghana, Christian Rogg, as part of ongoing engagements on Ghana’s development and international partnerships.

The meeting took place at the residence of the British High Commissioner in Accra on Thursday, June 11, 2026, and focused on strengthening the longstanding relationship between Ghana and the United Kingdom.

Following the engagement, Dr. Bawumia described the meeting as highly productive, noting that their discussions reflected the strong and enduring partnership between Ghana and the United Kingdom.

According to him, both sides acknowledged the solid legacy of cooperation that has characterized Ghana-UK relations over the years, while also sharing perspectives on the country's future development agenda.

The former Vice President said the discussions underscored a common vision for Ghana’s next chapter, built on collaboration, investment, and sustainable economic growth.

Dr. Bawumia also reflected on the achievements of the UK-Ghana Business Council, which he co-chaired during his tenure as Vice President.

He noted that the platform played a significant role in deepening economic ties between the two countries and facilitating strategic investments into Ghana.

According to him, the collaboration helped unlock major investment opportunities that contributed to the delivery of critical infrastructure projects and broader economic development initiatives.

The UK-Ghana Business Council has served as a key mechanism for promoting trade, investment, and business cooperation between Ghanaian and British stakeholders.

In a Facebook post after the meeting, Dr. Bawumia expressed appreciation to the High Commissioner for what he described as encouraging remarks regarding his approach to political discourse.

He said Mr. Rogg commended efforts to promote issue-based and policy-driven political engagement rather than personal attacks.

“I am particularly grateful to the High Commissioner for his kind words, commending our commitment to elevating the political space by prioritizing robust, policy-driven discussions over the politics of personal attacks,” Dr. Bawumia stated.

The meeting comes at a time when Ghana continues to strengthen diplomatic and economic relations with key international partners.

Observers say engagements between political leaders and members of the diplomatic community remain important avenues for discussing investment opportunities, governance issues, economic cooperation, and future development priorities.

The United Kingdom remains one of Ghana’s major development and trade partners, with collaboration spanning sectors including infrastructure, education, healthcare, governance, energy, and private sector development.
