Ministers Visit Klikor and Aflao Traditional Councils

In the company of the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu; the Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture and Member of Parliament for Ketu South, Abla Dzifa Gomashie; and the Deputy Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, a delegation undertook a series of significant royal visits across the southern sector of the Volta Region.

The visits formed part of efforts to engage traditional authorities, strengthen relationships with local leadership, and address pressing community concerns through direct interaction and support.

The first stop of the visit was at Klikor, where the delegation paid a solemn courtesy call on the newly installed Togbui Addo VIII and his council of elders. The visit coincided with ongoing burial preparations for the late Togbui Addo VII, a revered traditional leader whose passing has deeply affected the community. During the visit, the delegation conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved royal family, as well as to the people of Klikor and surrounding communities, expressing solidarity during this period of mourning and transition in traditional leadership.

The delegation then proceeded to the Aflao Traditional Council, where they participated in an emergency meeting convened by its President, Togbui Amenya Fiti V. The meeting focused on key developmental and institutional challenges facing the council, including infrastructure concerns and the need for improved facilities to support its operations.

In response to one of the urgent issues raised, particularly the need for renovation of the Traditional Council premises, a donation was made by the delegation to support the initiative. The gesture was described as part of a broader commitment to preserving and strengthening traditional institutions, which continue to play a vital role in governance, cultural heritage, and community cohesion.

The engagements highlighted the importance of collaboration between government officials and traditional authorities in addressing local challenges. They also underscored a shared commitment to fostering unity, promoting cultural preservation, and ensuring that the needs of communities across the Volta Region are effectively met.
