Wa Central NPP office vandalised by alleged party supporters over internal election dispute

The constituency office of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Wa Central in the Upper West Region has reportedly been vandalised by some alleged party supporters.

The incident, which occurred on Monday, May 26, 2026, caused significant damage to parts of the office building and several party properties.

Sources indicate that items destroyed during the incident included plastic chairs, official party documents, and other office materials.

The perpetrators are also alleged to have stolen a flat-screen television mounted inside the office after damaging parts of the premises.

Eyewitness accounts suggest the attackers forced their way into sections of the office, leaving behind scattered materials and damaged property.

Although details surrounding the incident are still emerging, unconfirmed reports suggest the vandalism may be linked to tensions surrounding the NPP’s ongoing polling station and electoral area election processes.

The internal elections, which are currently taking place across various constituencies, have reportedly generated disagreements among some party supporters and local executives in certain areas.

Political observers say grassroots elections within major political parties in Ghana often become highly competitive due to their influence on future constituency and national party structures.

As of Tuesday morning, the NPP had not issued an official statement regarding the incident or the extent of damage caused.

It also remains unclear whether any arrests have been made in connection with the vandalism.

Security agencies are expected to investigate the incident as party officials work to assess the damage and restore normal operations at the constituency office.

The development has sparked concerns among some party members about maintaining unity and discipline during the ongoing internal electoral process.
