Canada-based Ghanaians urged to register for World Cup ticket assistance

Ghana’s High Commission in Canada has launched a registration process for Ghanaian supporters hoping to attend the Black Stars’ opening match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup against Panama in Toronto.

In a statement signed by Ghana’s High Commissioner to Canada, Dora Francis Edu-Buandoh, the mission invited members of the Ghanaian community in Canada who have been unable to secure tickets for the June 17 fixture to submit their details for possible assistance.

According to the notice, the initiative follows a directive from Ghana’s Ministry of Sports and Recreation as preparations intensify for the Black Stars’ campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by United States, Canada and Mexico.

Interested supporters have been asked to provide their full names and email addresses through the High Commission’s official email platform by June 10, 2026. The mission said the information collected will support arrangements being made for Ghanaian fans expected to attend the match in Toronto.

The registration exercise comes shortly after John Dramani Mahama announced plans for government support to help Ghanaians living abroad attend Black Stars matches during the tournament.

President Mahama explained that while government intends to support diaspora-based fans in host cities, current economic realities would make it difficult to fully sponsor large groups of supporters travelling from Ghana, as was done during some previous international tournaments.

Ghana will begin its World Cup campaign against Panama before taking on England and Croatia in the remaining Group L fixtures.

The Black Stars are preparing for their fifth appearance at football’s biggest tournament, with growing optimism among supporters that the team can make a strong impact in North America.
