Parliamentary Sports Committee to invite GFA over Black Stars’ recent performance

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports is set to invite the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Minister responsible for Sports to explain the recent performances of the Black Stars.

Chairman of the Committee, Ernest Henry Norgbey, disclosed this in an interview with Akoma 87.9 FM following Ghana’s 4-2 defeat to The Gambia in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Norgbey said the committee had not yet conducted an investigation into the team’s recent performances but intends to engage the GFA and the Sports Minister to establish what is happening within Ghana football.

“We as a committee are yet to investigate into the performance of the Black Stars of recent times. We plan to invite the GFA, the Minister, purposely and specifically to interrogate what actually is happening to Ghana football, especially when it comes to the Black Stars,” he said.

The Committee Chairman also raised the possibility of a major restructuring of Ghana football, saying he would not be surprised if the government eventually considered dissolving the GFA and starting afresh.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if the government steps in and says, ‘We are dissolving the GFA and starting afresh,’ because we have seen something similar happen in Nigeria. We need to invest more in our sporting activities,” Norgbey said.

However, Norgbey clarified that he was not calling for the immediate dissolution of the GFA, stressing that the committee must first understand the factors behind the Black Stars’ recent performances.

“If we are banned for two years, those two years could be used to rebuild and restructure the system, but it is not a call I will make at this moment until I get the understanding of what exactly is happening in camp,” he said.

The comments follow Ghana’s 4-2 defeat to The Gambia in Accra, which came after a 2-0 loss to Côte d’Ivoire in the opening Group C fixture of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.

Norgbey’s latest comments mark a change in tone from his earlier support for the appointment of Carlos Queiroz. In April 2026, he praised the Ghana Football Association for appointing the Portuguese coach and said he believed Queiroz’s experience and tactical discipline would benefit the Black Stars.

The Parliamentary Sports Committee’s planned engagement with the GFA and the Sports Minister is expected to focus on the factors behind the national team’s recent results and the broader state of Ghana football.

The outcome of that engagement could inform any recommendations on the future management and development of the Black Stars and the wider football administration.
