Henos Energy has commissioned Ghana’s first-ever Drive-Thru Cylinder Distribution Outlet (CDO) at East Legon Hills in Accra, introducing an innovative Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) distribution model designed to improve convenience, enhance safety and support the government’s 24-Hour Economy agenda.
The newly inaugurated facility operates under the Cylinder Recirculation Model (CRM), allowing motorists to drive in, exchange empty LPG cylinders for filled ones, and continue their journeys without the lengthy waiting times associated with traditional gas refill stations.
The initiative is expected to transform LPG retailing in Ghana by making clean cooking fuel more accessible, particularly for households and businesses that require gas services beyond conventional working hours.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony on Friday, the Director of Gas at the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Madam Akua Ntiwaa Kwakye, praised Henos Energy for taking the lead in implementing the Cylinder Recirculation Model through the drive-thru concept.
She described the project as a landmark innovation in Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector, noting that it aligns with the government's vision of creating a vibrant 24-hour economy while improving safety and convenience for LPG consumers.
According to her, the initiative demonstrates how private sector investment and innovation can help modernise energy distribution and increase public confidence in the use of LPG.
The Head of Gas and Commercial Regulation at the NPA, Mr Obed Kraine Boachie, also hailed the initiative as a timely intervention that will simplify LPG cylinder exchange for consumers.
He said the drive-thru outlet provides a faster and more efficient way for customers to access LPG while supporting the government's broader objective of improving energy accessibility across the country.
Mr Boachie commended Henos Energy for pioneering the concept, describing it as a significant contribution to enhancing customer experience and service delivery in Ghana's LPG sector.
Chief Executive Officer of Henos Energy, Mr Henry Osei Yaw, announced that the company intends to establish 30 Drive-Thru Cylinder Distribution Outlets across Ghana.
According to him, the rollout will begin with five strategically located outlets in Accra before expanding to the Northern Region and other parts of the country.
He explained that the initiative was developed after years of customer engagement, during which consumers consistently requested a more convenient and comprehensive LPG service.
"Our customers have consistently told us they wanted a complete LPG solution that is accessible and convenient. That is what inspired the Drive-Thru concept," Mr Osei Yaw said.
Beyond cylinder exchange, Mr Osei Yaw said the new outlets would provide customers with a complete LPG service by stocking cylinders, regulators and other accessories required for the safe use of LPG.
The company will also replace damaged cylinders presented by customers with certified safe cylinders under the Cylinder Recirculation Model, helping to improve safety standards and reduce the risks associated with the use of faulty LPG cylinders.
As part of its digital transformation strategy, Henos Energy is developing a mobile application in partnership with Mobile Money (MoMo) service providers that will enable customers to order LPG and access related services digitally.
The platform is expected to further improve convenience by allowing customers to request cylinder exchanges and other LPG services from their mobile devices.
Mr Osei Yaw expressed appreciation to the National Petroleum Authority and the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC) for their support in bringing the project to fruition.
He noted that the Drive-Thru Cylinder Distribution Outlet represents more than an infrastructure investment, describing it as a practical contribution to Ghana's 24-Hour Economy policy by extending access to essential energy services beyond traditional operating hours.
The project is also expected to create new employment opportunities while encouraging wider adoption of cleaner cooking energy across Ghana.
The commissioning ceremony attracted key stakeholders from Ghana's petroleum industry, including the Director of Corporate Affairs at the National Petroleum Authority, Mrs Maria Edith Oquaye, and the NPA's Head of Business Development, Mr Ossei Yaw Danquah, alongside other industry players.
The launch of Ghana's first Drive-Thru Cylinder Distribution Outlet marks a major milestone in the country's efforts to modernise LPG distribution through innovation, technology and customer-focused service delivery.
