President John Dramani Mahama has cut the sod for the construction of the $1.3 billion Sentuo Airport Garden City Project, a mixed-use development expected to expand Accra’s residential, hospitality, commercial and leisure facilities.
The project is expected to include approximately 582 premium apartments, a 600-room hotel, a conference facility with a capacity of 2,500 people, healthcare facilities and a modern shopping mall.
It will also feature landscaped gardens, 503 parking bays within a four-storey apartment building, and other supporting commercial and leisure amenities.
At the sod-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, September 15, President Mahama called for Ghanaian engineers, architects, artisans, technicians, suppliers and other local businesses to be given meaningful opportunities to participate in the project’s construction.
He said greater involvement of local professionals and businesses would help ensure that the investment creates wider economic opportunities for Ghanaians beyond the development itself.
The President also expressed hope that the expansion of conference infrastructure in Accra would enable Ghana to host major international events, including conferences organised by the United Nations.
He said facilities capable of accommodating such events could strengthen Accra’s position as a destination for international conferences and business activities.
