SSNIT pays GH¢6.71 billion in benefits as of September 2026

The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has disbursed GH¢6.71 billion in benefits to members and beneficiaries as of September 2026, reaffirming its commitment to providing financial security for workers and pensioners across Ghana.

The payments cover monthly pensions, invalidity pensions, survivors’ benefits, emigration benefits and other entitlements under the Scheme.

The figures were disclosed by SSNIT’s General Manager in charge of Benefits, Frank Molbila, during the launch of the 2026 SSNIT Mobile Service (SMS) Week in Techiman in the Bono East Region.

Delivering the keynote address on behalf of Dr Bernardette Hoffman, Deputy Director-General in charge of Finance and Administration, Mr Molbila said the Trust remained committed to ensuring that members and beneficiaries received their benefits promptly.

He noted that SSNIT currently processes and pays pensions within seven working days but was working to reduce the turnaround time further through technology and improved operational efficiency.

Mr Molbila also highlighted several initiatives introduced to improve members’ experiences and make SSNIT services more accessible.

These include co-location partnerships with selected banks, the Member Value Programme (MVP), which offers discounts at participating shops, telehealth services for pensioners and the Virtual Branch.

The initiatives are intended to improve access to pension-related services, strengthen support for members and make transactions more convenient.

The 2026 SSNIT Mobile Service Week began on Monday, October 19, and is scheduled to end on Friday, October 23, 2026.

The annual initiative is designed to bring SSNIT’s services closer to members and the general public, particularly people who may face difficulties accessing the Trust’s regular service centres.

As part of this year’s exercise, SSNIT has established 68 temporary service touchpoints at designated locations across the country.

The temporary centres are providing services such as new member registration, benefits processing and status verification, renewal of pensioner certificates, merging of Ghana Card and SSNIT numbers, and responses to general enquiries.

The exercise is also expected to help members resolve administrative issues and obtain information about their contributions and benefits.

A major focus of this year’s campaign is to encourage self-employed persons and informal sector workers to join the SSNIT Scheme, contribute consistently and build a reliable source of income for retirement.

The target groups include traders, artisans, drivers, farmers and other workers who may not have access to employer-sponsored pension arrangements.

SSNIT is also encouraging members to make greater use of its digital platforms, including the SSNIT Mobile App, online portal and Virtual Branch.

The Trust believes wider adoption of these platforms will allow members to access services more conveniently while reducing the need for physical visits to its offices.

The launch featured testimonies from three beneficiaries, comprising two invalidity pensioners and one survivor beneficiary, who shared their experiences and explained how the Scheme had supported them.

The Paramount Chief of the Techiman Traditional Area, Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw IV, officially launched the 2026 Mobile Service Week as the Special Guest of Honour.

He was represented at the event by the Chief of Kenten and Debehene of the Techiman Traditional Area, Oheneba Nana Owusu Antwi Boasiako II.

The traditional authority commended SSNIT management for bringing the initiative to Techiman, noting that it would expand access to the Trust’s services and encourage more workers in the area to enrol in the Scheme.

Bono East Regional Minister Francis Owusu Antwi also praised SSNIT for using digital platforms to improve service delivery.

He urged the Trust to sustain its public engagement efforts and intensify social security awareness campaigns, particularly among self-employed people and informal sector workers.

The 2026 Mobile Service Week forms part of SSNIT’s broader efforts to expand pension coverage, improve service delivery and encourage more Ghanaians to prepare financially for retirement.

Through its nationwide outreach and digital services, the Trust aims to make social security more accessible and ensure that more workers can benefit from the protection offered by the pension system.
