AMA clears unauthorised structures at Achimota Ayalolo bus stop

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has cleared unauthorised structures around the Achimota New Overhead Ayalolo bus stop as part of efforts to improve access for commercial buses and reduce traffic congestion in the area.

The exercise was led by Accra Mayor Michael Kpakpo Allotey on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, in collaboration with the Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly.

According to the AMA, the operation is intended to restore order around the transport facility by removing structures and trading activities occupying spaces not designated for such purposes.

The assembly said the clearance would enable commercial buses, particularly Ayalolo buses, to pick up and drop off passengers without obstruction.

The presence of unauthorised structures and trading activities around bus stops can restrict vehicle movement, disrupt passenger access and contribute to traffic congestion.

The exercise is therefore aimed at ensuring that the Achimota New Overhead bus stop remains accessible to public transport operators and commuters.

The AMA carried out the operation in collaboration with the Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly as part of broader efforts to regulate the use of public spaces across the capital.

The assemblies said the initiative was intended to remove encroachments, improve access to public transport facilities and support more effective traffic management.

The operation also forms part of efforts to ensure that designated bus stops are used for their intended purpose, allowing commercial transport services to operate more efficiently.

The assemblies are seeking to promote an orderly urban environment by addressing unauthorised occupation of public spaces and improving the movement of vehicles and pedestrians.

The AMA has identified the regulation of public spaces and improved access to transport facilities as important measures in managing congestion and supporting the efficient delivery of public transport services in Accra.
