IGP Deploys Armoured Vehicles and Additional Personnel to Restore Calm in Nkwanta After Violent Attacks

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has deployed additional security personnel and armoured vehicles to Nkwanta in the Oti Region following renewed violent attacks in the area.

In a statement issued by the Oti Regional Police Headquarters in Dambai on Thursday, March 26, the Police confirmed that the IGP ordered the deployment of two armoured vehicles alongside officers from the National Police Operations Unit on Wednesday night to strengthen security in the affected areas.

According to the statement, the rapid deployment has helped restore calm in the Nkwanta South Municipality, and the situation is currently under control.

Despite the intervention, the aftermath of the attacks has tragically left five people dead, including three males and two females. The victims were discovered at two separate locations by a joint team of personnel from the Police, Military, Bureau of National Intelligence (BNI), Defence Intelligence, and the Ghana National Fire Service.

Investigations have commenced to determine the circumstances of the incident, identify those responsible, and ensure they are brought to justice.

The Police have urged residents of Nkwanta and surrounding communities to remain calm and assist security agencies by providing information that could support the ongoing investigations.

Authorities continue to stress the importance of community cooperation to maintain peace and prevent further escalation of violence in the region.
