Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno has deployed an additional specialised police operations team, supported by a multi-purpose armoured vehicle, to Nkwanta Municipality in the Oti Region to strengthen security and reinforce ongoing operations.
The Ghana Police Service said the deployment was intended to bolster the existing security presence and support joint Police-Military operations aimed at maintaining law and order in the municipality.
In a statement signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police John Nchor, Public Affairs Officer for the Oti Region, the Police confirmed that the specialised team arrived in Nkwanta on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
“On 14 October 2026, the team arrived in the municipality to reinforce the existing police deployment and support ongoing joint Police-Military operations aimed at maintaining law and order,” the statement said.

The Police said the joint security forces remained committed to protecting lives and property and ensuring the safety of residents as operations continued.
The latest deployment forms part of efforts to reinforce security personnel already stationed in the municipality and support their work in maintaining public order.
Although the statement did not provide further details about the specific operational activities, the Police emphasised their commitment to sustaining peace and stability in the area.
The Ghana Police Service has appealed to residents of Nkwanta to remain calm and cooperate with security personnel as the joint operations continue.
Residents have also been encouraged to volunteer credible information that could assist the Police and Military in their work.
“The public is urged to remain calm, cooperate with security personnel, volunteer credible information, and refrain from any acts that could undermine security operations,” the statement said.
The Police further cautioned residents against actions that could compromise ongoing security efforts, stressing that public cooperation was essential to maintaining a safe environment.
“Public cooperation remains essential to maintaining peace, security, and stability in Nkwanta,” the statement added.
The Police reiterated their commitment to working with residents and other security agencies to protect communities and preserve law and order across Nkwanta Municipality.
