7 reported dead, several injured in accident in Kintampo

A tragic road accident has claimed the lives of seven people, with several others sustaining injuries near Babatokuma in the Kintampo Municipality. The incident occurred in the early hours of Good Friday, April 3, 2026, according to a report by Adom News journalist Wiafe Akenten.

The crash involved a passenger bus heading south and a truck loaded with tomatoes travelling in the opposite direction toward Burkina Faso. Eyewitnesses described the collision as head-on, resulting in severe damage to both vehicles. Several passengers were reportedly trapped beneath seats and wreckage, requiring urgent extrication by rescue teams.

Emergency responders, together with local bystanders, rushed to the scene to assist the victims. Injured passengers were transported to nearby health facilities in Kintampo, Wenchi, and Techiman for initial treatment. Those in critical condition were further referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and the Tamale Teaching Hospital for advanced medical care.

Authorities have launched an investigation to establish the cause of the accident, including factors such as vehicle speed, road conditions, and driver conduct. The tragic incident has sparked renewed calls for improved road safety measures, especially on busy intercity routes, to prevent similar fatalities in the future.
