Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has announced that all outstanding salary arrears owed to unpaid nurses have been settled.
The announcement brings relief to nurses who had been waiting for their payments, as well as their families and households that depend on their income.
In a statement celebrating the development, the minister said the settlement reflected the government’s commitment to addressing workers’ concerns and recognising their contributions to the country.
The statement described the payment of the arrears as an example of governance focused on listening to workers, resolving challenges and prioritising the needs of ordinary Ghanaians.
It also linked the development to the administration of President John Dramani Mahama, saying the government aims to build a system in which workers are respected and their sacrifices acknowledged.
The statement further emphasised the importance of nurses to Ghana’s healthcare system, noting that improved welfare for health workers contributes to stronger hospitals and better outcomes for the public.
The announcement is expected to ease financial pressure on affected nurses and their dependants.
The minister’s statement concluded that putting workers and their welfare first remains central to the government’s vision of building a better Ghana.
