The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has directed consultants and road agencies to accelerate the review and approval of construction designs to prevent unnecessary delays in the execution of road projects.
The Minister proposed that design review sessions should be organised and completed in a single sitting, allowing contractors, consultants and relevant road agencies to address proposed changes and resolve technical challenges immediately.
Agbodza made the call on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, during an inspection of Phases One and Two of the Suame Interchange project.
He criticised the practice of contractors submitting designs and having to wait several days or weeks for feedback from consultants and government agencies, saying the process was contributing to delays.
“We don’t have one week to solve this problem. So call them tomorrow or Thursday or Friday. Do the design review at one meeting. Solve the problem on site,” he said.
The Minister also suggested that temporary facilities could be established at project sites to enable contractors, consultants and government representatives to review designs and address technical issues without unnecessary delays.
“In fact, you can just mount a tent here. Mount a tent on the side. Solve the problem on site,” Agbodza said.
According to the Minister, conducting design reviews at project sites would give consultants and other stakeholders a clearer understanding of the actual conditions on the ground.
He said this approach could also help ensure that proposed designs are practical and responsive to challenges encountered during construction.
Agbodza’s directive forms part of efforts to improve coordination among contractors, consultants and road agencies and ensure that technical and administrative processes do not unnecessarily slow down road projects.
