Ghana Police arrest Prophet William Gyimah over threats to Vice President

Accra, Ghana – The Ghana Police Service has arrested Prophet William Gyimah, General Overseer of Elohim International Ministry, for allegedly issuing death threats against the Vice President, H.E. Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, in a viral video circulating on social media.

The 49-year-old suspect was apprehended on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, during a targeted intelligence-led operation at Kasoa by the Police Service’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET). The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement to monitor and address threats to national security originating from digital platforms.

According to police sources, the arrest was triggered by proactive surveillance of social media, during which officers intercepted a high-priority video allegedly showing the suspect making threatening statements. The video, which had circulated widely on platforms including TikTok, raised serious concerns about public safety and national stability.

Following his arrest, Prophet Gyimah has been transferred to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for further interrogation and detailed investigations into the matter.

The Police Administration has since issued a strong caution to the public and media practitioners, urging responsible use of digital platforms. Authorities warned against the publication or sharing of content that could incite unrest, spread fear, or threaten the peace and security of the country.

They further assured the public that the case is being handled with the utmost seriousness and professionalism, adding that updates will be communicated as investigations progress.

The incident highlights growing concerns over the misuse of social media for the spread of harmful content, as security agencies intensify efforts to safeguard national peace and uphold the rule of law.
