President John Dramani Mahama has cut the sod for the construction of the 1,238-acre Afienya Industrial Park, a major industrial development expected to strengthen Ghana’s manufacturing sector, attract investment and create employment opportunities.
The industrial park is being developed to accommodate more than 120 enterprises, with essential infrastructure designed to support businesses in establishing factories and commencing production.
The facilities will include electricity, water supply, road networks and waste treatment systems to provide an enabling environment for industrial operations.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony on Thursday, October 15, 2026, President Mahama said the project would help address increasing demand for industrial space following the exhaustion of available space at the Tema Export Processing Zone.
The Afienya Industrial Park is expected to provide additional capacity for businesses seeking to establish manufacturing operations in Ghana, while supporting the government’s broader industrialisation agenda.
With the planned infrastructure and capacity to host more than 120 enterprises, the park is intended to make it easier for investors to set up factories and expand production.
President Mahama disclosed that the government’s proposed $10 billion New Economy Programme would support infrastructure development at the industrial park.
The initiative forms part of the government’s efforts to expand domestic production, reduce reliance on imported goods and increase exports.
By providing industrial land and essential facilities, the Afienya Industrial Park is expected to support businesses, strengthen local manufacturing capacity and create opportunities for employment.
The project also aligns with the government’s broader ambition to attract investment and position Ghana as a competitive destination for industrial development.
