Mahama to commission Agbogbloshie waste evacuation to Nsawam landfill today
President John Dramani Mahama is expected to commission an exercise to evacuate waste from Agbogbloshie in Accra to the Adepa Landfill Site at Nsawam on Friday, September 18, 2026.
The exercise, which covers approximately 42 kilometres, is being organised by the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development in collaboration with the Ghana Armed Forces.
The District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) is also supporting the exercise as part of efforts to improve waste management and address sanitation challenges in the capital.
The commissioning ceremony is scheduled to take place at the IRECOP Management Centre at Jamestown in Accra at 10:00 a.m.
President Mahama is expected to serve as the Guest of Honour at the ceremony.
The evacuation of waste from Agbogbloshie to the Adepa Landfill Site forms part of broader efforts to improve sanitation and waste management in Accra, particularly in areas that have faced persistent waste disposal challenges.
The initiative is also expected to support efforts by local authorities to improve the cleanliness of the capital and ensure that waste collected from heavily populated areas is transported to designated disposal facilities.
