MP donates GH¢60,000 to repair Kintampo North ambulance

The Member of Parliament for Kintampo North, Joseph Kwame Kumah, has donated GH¢60,000 to the National Ambulance Service to procure a new engine for the constituency's ambulance, which has been out of operation for the past three months.

The donation is expected to restore emergency medical services in the area and improve the referral of critically ill patients to major health facilities.

The Kintampo North lawmaker said the prolonged breakdown of the ambulance has placed enormous pressure on healthcare delivery within the constituency.

According to him, hospitals and clinics in the Kintampo township have faced significant challenges transporting critically ill patients to referral centres, including the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi and the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

The absence of a functioning ambulance has affected the timely transfer of emergency cases, raising concerns about access to life-saving medical care.

Presenting the cheque to officials of the National Ambulance Service, Mr. Kumah said restoring the ambulance is essential to improving emergency healthcare delivery in the constituency.

He noted that the donation would enable the Service to purchase a replacement engine and return the vehicle to operation as quickly as possible.

The MP expressed confidence that the intervention would strengthen emergency response capacity and ensure patients requiring specialist medical care can be transferred promptly to referral hospitals.

Chief Executive Officer of the National Ambulance Service, Dr. George Kojo Owusu, thanked the Member of Parliament for the timely support.

He confirmed that the ambulance has remained grounded for the past three months, affecting emergency medical operations in the constituency.

"The ambulance has been out of service for the past three months, so we thank the Member of Parliament for this intervention. We will use the funds as soon as possible to procure a new engine and get the ambulance back on the road to save lives," Dr. Owusu said.

Dr. Owusu also disclosed that the National Ambulance Service is continuing efforts to improve the quality of emergency healthcare nationwide.

He revealed that Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) are currently undergoing in-service training aimed at strengthening their capacity to stabilise patients before transporting them to referral facilities.

According to him, enhancing the skills of emergency personnel, alongside improving ambulance availability, will contribute to better patient outcomes and more efficient emergency response services across the country.

The restoration of the Kintampo North ambulance is expected to significantly improve access to emergency medical transport and strengthen healthcare delivery for residents in the constituency.
