The Chairperson of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Abena Osei Asare, has commended the Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Kudzo Tameklo, for his strong understanding of the Authority’s operations and his handling of issues raised during a recent parliamentary hearing.
Madam Osei Asare made the remarks on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, during a working visit by PAC members to the NPA’s head office, where she praised the Chief Executive for his ability to respond to questions on the Authority’s activities, particularly matters relating to the Unified Petroleum Price Fund (UPPF) audit and a licensing ratification issue.
“We are here to see for ourselves, first-hand, what exactly goes into the activities of the NPA. But I must say I was really impressed with how you carried yourself at the PAC hearing. You have knowledge of every activity under the NPA, and I think you should keep it up,” she said.
She added that Mr Tameklo demonstrated a strong grasp of the issues raised during the hearing and was able to provide answers across the various areas examined by the Committee.
“On every aspect he was questioned on, he was able to answer. I was also impressed with the audit on the UPPF. Another thing that impressed me was how he took the ratification matter seriously. When I look at the timeframe within which the matter was put to rest, I was impressed, and I think that is what should be done,” she added.
Mr Tameklo appeared before the Public Accounts Committee on October 15, 2026, to respond to questions arising from a special audit of the Authority’s operations covering the period from 2023 to 2025.
The subsequent working visit was intended to provide Committee members with a practical understanding of the NPA’s regulatory responsibilities and the measures being taken to address issues raised during the hearing.
The engagement also gave members an opportunity to learn more about the systems and technical processes the Authority uses to regulate Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector.
Speaking during the visit, Mr Tameklo said the engagement would enable the Committee to examine the Authority’s work in key regulatory areas, including the Unified Petroleum Price Fund, the Automatic Tank Gauging system, the Electronic Cargo Tracking System and quality assurance.
These areas are central to the NPA’s regulatory oversight, including petroleum product monitoring, compliance and the protection of consumers.
Discussions during the visit also covered regulatory compliance, quality assurance, consumer protection and issues relating to the UPPF.
PAC members subsequently toured key NPA facilities, including the Authority’s laboratory and Command Centre, where they received briefings on the work of technical departments and the systems supporting its regulatory activities.
Mr Tameklo also acknowledged the support of the NPA Board, chaired by Alhaji Huudu Yahaya Iddrisu, in providing strategic direction for the Authority.
He said the Board’s guidance had helped position the institution as it carried out its regulatory responsibilities.
“I am fortunate to have the respected Alhaji Huudu Yahaya Iddrisu as my Board Chair. Together with the Board members, they have provided direction as we have positioned the Authority over this period,” he said.
The Chief Executive also praised the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, for his leadership and support, describing their working relationship as “fantastic”.
The visit forms part of the PAC’s engagement with public institutions to strengthen members’ understanding of their operations and support more informed parliamentary oversight of public resources and regulatory responsibilities.
