Ghana’s Black Stars suffered a 4-2 defeat to The Gambia in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.
The result means Ghana are still without a win or a point after their opening two Group C matches, having previously lost 2-0 to Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké.
The Black Stars made a strong start to the game and took the lead in the 27th minute when Ernest Nuamah converted a penalty.
Felix Afena-Gyan then doubled Ghana’s advantage six minutes later, curling a free-kick into the net to give the hosts a 2-0 lead.
However, The Gambia quickly responded after being awarded a penalty following a foul inside Ghana’s penalty area. Colley converted from the spot to reduce the deficit.
The visitors continued to push forward and completed their comeback before the break, scoring again to level the match at 2-2.
The Gambia carried their momentum into the second half and added two more goals to complete a 4-2 victory over the Black Stars.
The defeat leaves Ghana without a point from their first two Group C fixtures and increases the pressure on Carlos Queiroz’s side as they seek to secure qualification for the 2027 AFCON finals.
Ghana will need to improve their results in the remaining matches of the qualification campaign to challenge for one of the two qualification places available from Group C.
The 2027 Africa Cup of Nations tournament will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
