Telecel Ghana has strengthened mobile connectivity at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in the Volta Region by commissioning a dedicated 4G cell site, significantly expanding network capacity and improving high-speed internet access across the university campus and surrounding communities.
The investment forms part of the telecommunications company's nationwide network modernisation programme aimed at delivering faster, more reliable and wider mobile coverage to customers across Ghana.
The newly commissioned cell site was activated ahead of the arrival of more than 2,000 first-year students, ensuring the university's telecommunications infrastructure was fully prepared to support increased demand for voice and data services during the new academic year.
The enhanced network is expected to improve access to virtual lectures, online research, digital collaboration, cloud-based learning platforms and other internet-enabled academic activities that have become essential in higher education.
By increasing network capacity before student registration and onboarding, Telecel Ghana sought to provide a seamless digital experience for both new and continuing students from the beginning of the academic year.
Speaking at the commissioning, Head of Networks at Telecel Ghana, Anthony Sam, said the project reflects the company's commitment to investing in strategic institutions where reliable connectivity contributes directly to education, research, innovation and national development.
According to him, UHAS has become one of Ghana's leading centres for healthcare education and medical research, making dependable digital infrastructure critical to the institution's academic success.

He noted that the new infrastructure will help improve browsing speeds, call quality and overall customer experience for students, lecturers, staff and residents within the surrounding communities.
The UHAS project forms part of Telecel Ghana's broader network expansion strategy, which has seen the company undertake more than 1,000 network enhancement projects across the country this year.

Head of Customer Operations at Telecel Ghana's Enterprise Business Unit, Jerry Ayeduvor, explained that activating the new site before the arrival of fresh students was a deliberate strategy aimed at delivering an uninterrupted customer experience.
He said early deployment allowed the company to fully test and optimise the network before the influx of thousands of new users onto the campus.
The improved connectivity is expected to benefit students throughout their academic journey by providing reliable access to digital learning resources and communication platforms.
The President of the Federal Students Representative Council (FSRC) at UHAS, Edward Benevolent Nyamekye, welcomed the investment, saying students had already experienced noticeable improvements in both voice and internet services.
According to him, poor connectivity had previously affected communication and internet access on campus, but the new infrastructure has significantly enhanced the digital experience.
