Tension has gripped Deti, a farming community in the Akatsi South Municipality, after angry youth allegedly set several properties on fire following a shooting incident that left two brothers seriously injured.

The violence reportedly erupted after a landlord, popularly known as Mensah, allegedly opened fire during an altercation with residents.

According to reports, 45-year-old James Kpanda sustained a gunshot wound to the knee after the suspect allegedly discharged a firearm during the confrontation.

His younger brother, Jonathan Kpanda, also suffered a serious eye injury during the incident.

The circumstances that triggered the altercation remain unclear, but eyewitnesses say tensions escalated rapidly after the shooting.

The two injured brothers are currently receiving treatment at the Akatsi Municipal Hospital.

Following the shooting, some enraged youth in the community reportedly stormed the suspect’s residence and set parts of the property ablaze in retaliation.

Properties destroyed in the attack included the suspect’s house, a Mercedes-Benz private vehicle, three motorbikes, and a jungle motorbike.

The incident has heightened tensions within the community, with residents expressing shock over the violent turn of events.

Police have since arrested the suspect to assist with investigations into the shooting and the subsequent destruction of property.
