Otumfuo commends Black Maria for tackling crime in Ashanti Region

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has commended personnel of the Inspector General of Police's special operations unit, Black Maria, for their successful efforts in combating crime across communities in the Ashanti Region.

The commendation follows a series of targeted operations by the specialised police team aimed at dismantling criminal networks and improving public safety in parts of the region that have experienced heightened criminal activity.

Speaking during a courtesy call by the team at the Manhyia Palace, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II applauded the officers for their dedication and professionalism.

The delegation was led by the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Arthur Osei-Akoto, who briefed the Asantehene on the operations undertaken by the special unit.

Otumfuo observed that the Black Maria team's interventions have helped restore calm and improve security in several communities previously affected by criminal activities.

According to him, the officers' work has contributed significantly to safeguarding lives and property while strengthening public confidence in law enforcement.

The Asantehene encouraged the officers to maintain the momentum and remain committed to their mission of protecting the public.

He praised the Inspector General of Police for entrusting the team with the important responsibility of combating crime and expressed confidence in their ability to continue delivering results.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II also stressed the importance of strengthening collaboration between the police, traditional authorities and local communities.

He urged the Black Maria team to continue engaging chiefs and community leaders as part of efforts to maintain lasting peace and improve security across the Ashanti Region.

The Asantehene noted that effective partnerships between security agencies and traditional institutions remain essential in preventing crime and promoting community safety.

The Asantehene appealed to residents to actively support the police by volunteering credible and timely information that can assist ongoing investigations and crime-fighting operations.

He emphasised that community cooperation plays a critical role in helping security agencies identify and apprehend criminals.

According to him, lasting peace and security require the collective efforts of both law enforcement agencies and the public.
