Ibrahim Mahama flies old private jet abroad to be turned into air ambulance

The private jet of prominent Ghanaian businessman Ibrahim Mahama is set to undergo specialised modifications to transform it into an air ambulance, aimed at providing critical medical services for public use. The aircraft departed Ghana on April 3, 2026, ahead of its conversion, which will equip it with state-of-the-art life-support and medical care equipment, enabling rapid response to emergencies and the transport of patients requiring urgent medical attention.

The initiative is designed to support Ghanaian healthcare services by enhancing rapid-response capabilities for critical medical situations, particularly in areas where conventional ambulances may face delays due to traffic congestion or remote locations. The air ambulance is expected to improve emergency response times significantly and expand access to urgent care for vulnerable populations across the country.

While details regarding the timeline for the jet’s return and operational readiness are yet to be disclosed, the initiative has been widely welcomed by health professionals and the public as a major step toward strengthening Ghana’s emergency medical response infrastructure. The project highlights the potential for private sector contributions to public health and the importance of innovative solutions in addressing critical healthcare challenges.
