Foreign Affairs Minister engages Volta Regional House of Chiefs

The Volta Regional House of Chiefs, led by its President and Paramount Chief of the Anfoega Traditional Area, Togbe Tepre Hodo IV, has paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, in Accra.

The delegation visited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, to congratulate Mr Ablakwa on his birthday and his appointment as Foreign Affairs Minister.

The visit also provided an opportunity for the traditional leaders to strengthen the relationship between the Volta Regional House of Chiefs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Speaking during the visit, Togbe Tepre Hodo IV said the delegation considered it important to personally congratulate the Minister on his birthday and new ministerial appointment.

He also expressed the House’s appreciation for Mr Ablakwa’s efforts to promote the interests of the Volta Region while serving in various national capacities.

The Paramount Chief commended the Minister for what he described as his dedicated service to Ghana and his contributions to national development.

He particularly highlighted Mr Ablakwa’s continued interest in the development of his constituency and the wider Volta Region.

Welcoming the delegation, Mr Ablakwa expressed his appreciation to the chiefs for taking the time to visit him at the Ministry.

He said he was particularly grateful for the warm congratulatory messages on both his birthday and his appointment as Minister for Foreign Affairs.

The Minister described the visit as a great privilege and said he did not take the gesture lightly.

He noted that he had initially intended to visit the Volta Regional House of Chiefs himself, but the chiefs had respectfully declined the offer and instead travelled to Accra to meet him at his official workplace.

Mr Ablakwa expressed his appreciation for the gesture and the continued support of the traditional leadership of the Volta Region.

Togbe Tepre Hodo IV noted that the Volta Region had historically faced challenges regarding its share of national resources and development opportunities.

He, however, observed that there had been significant changes in recent times, which he attributed partly to Mr Ablakwa’s efforts and commitment to ensuring that the interests of the region received greater attention.

The President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs further commended the Minister for maintaining a strong connection with the region despite his demanding national responsibilities.

He encouraged Mr Ablakwa to continue advocating for the development interests of the Volta Region while simultaneously serving the broader interests of Ghana.

The courtesy call underscores the importance of collaboration between Ghana’s traditional institutions and government agencies in advancing regional and national development.

The engagement also provided an opportunity for the Volta Regional House of Chiefs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to strengthen their relationship and explore avenues for continued cooperation.

Togbe Tepre Hodo IV's remarks reaffirmed the House’s expectation that the interests and development needs of the Volta Region would continue to receive attention within the national development agenda.

Mr Ablakwa, for his part, welcomed the engagement and expressed gratitude to the chiefs for their goodwill and support.
