Ghana and Canada are set to deepen bilateral cooperation across key sectors, including trade, investment, innovation, digital transformation, energy, education and skills development, as both countries seek to strengthen their long-standing diplomatic and economic relationship.
The commitment was reaffirmed by the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, who represented the Government of Ghana at the celebration of the 159th Anniversary of the Canadian Confederation.
Speaking during the event, Dr. Jinapor conveyed the warm greetings of President John Dramani Mahama to the Government and people of Canada, while reaffirming Ghana's commitment to expanding cooperation in areas that promote sustainable development and shared prosperity.
According to the Minister, the relationship between Ghana and Canada has continued to grow over the decades, supported by common values such as democracy, peace, mutual respect and international cooperation.
He noted that both countries have built a strong foundation for collaboration, creating opportunities for economic growth, investment and human capital development.
Dr. Jinapor said Ghana is looking forward to expanding partnerships in strategic sectors that will contribute to economic transformation and job creation.
He identified trade, investment, innovation, digital transformation, energy, education and skills development as priority areas where both countries can work together to deliver mutual benefits.
"We look forward to deepening collaboration in trade, investment, innovation, digital transformation, energy, education and skills development. Ghana remains committed to strengthening partnerships that create opportunities and shared prosperity for our people," he stated.
The Minister added that stronger cooperation in these sectors would help accelerate economic development while supporting Ghana's broader agenda of industrialisation, technological advancement and sustainable growth.
Dr. Jinapor described the occasion as a meaningful reminder of the enduring friendship between Ghana and Canada, a relationship that has been built over nearly 70 years through diplomatic cooperation and shared commitment to global peace and development.
He emphasized that the partnership has continued to evolve through collaboration in governance, education, healthcare, trade, infrastructure and development assistance.
As Ghana and Canada approach the milestone of 70 years of diplomatic relations, both countries are expected to explore new opportunities for collaboration in emerging sectors, particularly clean energy, digital innovation and skills training.
On behalf of the Government of Ghana, Dr. Jinapor congratulated the Government and people of Canada on the country's 159th national anniversary.
He expressed optimism that the long-standing friendship between the two nations would continue to flourish in the years ahead.
