Motorists travelling on the Accra–Kumasi Highway are being advised to use alternative routes following a major road crash at Birimso Bridge on the N6 Highway that has completely blocked traffic in both directions.
According to the Ghana Police Service, the collision involved a high-occupancy passenger bus, a loaded articulated truck and a sedan, leading to a total obstruction of the carriageway for both Accra-bound and Kumasi-bound vehicles.
The Eastern South Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) team from Kibi has been deployed to the accident scene to manage the situation and restore normal traffic flow.
To ease congestion and facilitate the movement of vehicles, the Police have introduced temporary traffic diversions for motorists travelling on the affected stretch.
The diversion remains in effect while emergency responders and police officers work to clear the wreckage and reopen the highway.
The Police have appealed to drivers and other road users to cooperate with officers stationed along the diversion routes and to strictly follow traffic directions to ensure safety and minimise delays.
Motorists are also encouraged to exercise patience, reduce speed when approaching diversion points, and remain alert as traffic management operations continue.
Authorities have not yet released details regarding casualties or the cause of the collision. Further updates are expected as investigations continue and recovery operations progress.
