Fire guts ICT lab at Gushegu Nursing and Midwifery Training College

A fire has destroyed portions of the Gushegu Nursing and Midwifery Training College in the Northern Region.

The incident occurred on Monday, August 17, 2026, and affected the institution's ICT laboratory and an adjoining classroom.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), firefighters from the Yendi Fire Station travelled approximately 61 kilometres to the school after receiving a distress call about the blaze.

The fire had engulfed the school's ICT laboratory and the adjoining classroom when firefighters arrived at the scene.

The GNFS team quickly moved to contain the blaze and successfully prevented it from spreading to other sections of the institution.

The fire was completely extinguished at 9:13 a.m., according to the Fire Service.

The swift response helped prevent the incident from causing further damage to other facilities on the school premises.

The cause of the fire has not yet been established.

The Ghana National Fire Service said investigations are underway to determine what caused the blaze and the extent of the damage to the affected facilities.

There were no immediate reports of casualties in connection with the incident.

The fire comes as a reminder of the need for effective fire prevention and safety measures in educational institutions, particularly facilities housing electrical equipment and ICT infrastructure.
