Karpowership awards GH¢210k in scholarships to 63 TTU students

Karpowership Ghana has awarded scholarships worth GH¢210,550 to 63 engineering students of Takoradi Technical University (TTU) for the 2026/2027 academic year to support their tuition fees and promote the development of technical skills in Ghana.

The scholarship programme, established in 2022, is designed to ease the financial burden of higher education while helping to develop the skilled workforce needed to support Ghana’s industrial growth and energy sector.

Presenting the cheque on behalf of the company, Karpowership Ghana Managing Director, Ing. Oscar Kojo Amonoo-Neizer, said the initiative had supported students pursuing Mechanical, Electrical and Civil Engineering, with Petroleum Engineering added as an eligible discipline for the 2026/2027 academic year.

He disclosed that 78 students had graduated through the scheme since its establishment, describing the achievement as evidence of the importance of sustained investment in education and technical skills development.

“For us, this support goes beyond financial assistance. It represents an investment in the potential of young people, the development of local expertise and the future of Ghana’s engineering and energy sectors,” he said.

Ing. Amonoo-Neizer said the inclusion of Petroleum Engineering reflected the company’s commitment to developing specialised skills to support Ghana’s evolving energy industry.

He noted that the country needed qualified professionals capable of solving complex technical problems, embracing new technologies and responding to the changing demands of the energy sector.

By extending the scholarship to Petroleum Engineering students, Karpowership Ghana aims to broaden opportunities for young people pursuing careers in disciplines relevant to the country’s energy and industrial development.

The company considers technical education and skills development important to building local expertise and preparing graduates for the demands of modern industry.

The managing director also highlighted the company’s efforts to increase women’s participation in engineering and other technical fields.

He disclosed that Karpowership Ghana’s all-female internship programme, mentorship and capacity-building initiatives had reached more than 500 young women.

“Our vision is to see more women become engineers, innovators and industry leaders. We believe that talent has no gender and that women must have equal opportunities to contribute meaningfully to the future of Ghana’s energy sector,” he stated.

The initiatives are intended to encourage more young women to pursue technical careers and gain practical exposure to opportunities within the engineering and energy industries.

Ing. Amonoo-Neizer urged the scholarship beneficiaries to remain disciplined, embrace innovation and uphold high standards of integrity and professionalism.

“To our 2026 scholars, congratulations on being selected. You have been given an important opportunity, and we encourage you to make the most of it,” he said.

Ing. Amonoo-Neizer reaffirmed Karpowership Ghana’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with TTU and exploring opportunities to connect academic learning with practical industry experience.

He said collaboration between universities and industry was essential to bridging the gap between classroom instruction and workplace requirements.

Such partnerships can create opportunities for mentorship, knowledge-sharing and professional development while helping students better understand the practical demands of their chosen careers.

The company views investment in education as an investment in Ghana’s future and intends to continue supporting initiatives that promote technical capacity development and empower young people.

He also encouraged former scholarship beneficiaries to remain connected to the programme and serve as mentors and role models for current and future recipients.

The Pro Vice-Chancellor of Takoradi Technical University, Prof. Ebenezer Boakye, expressed gratitude to Karpowership Ghana for its continued support for engineering education and the development of technical professionals.

Drawing on his personal experience, Prof. Boakye explained how scholarship support could influence a student’s educational journey and future prospects.

“If I hadn’t gotten a scholarship, I wouldn’t have been here. So, when I see an institution like Karpowership giving support to students like this, I doff my hat to them,” he said.

He described the partnership between Karpowership Ghana and TTU as an important collaboration that extends beyond financial assistance to support the training of skilled engineers.

Prof. Boakye reaffirmed the university’s commitment to providing quality education that equips students with the knowledge and competencies needed to contribute to Ghana’s development.

He also reminded the beneficiaries that the scholarship came with a responsibility to work hard and demonstrate commitment to their studies.

“To our 2026 scholars, you have won this scholarship, but you must work to merit it,” he urged.

Olivia Agyeman, the officer in charge of TTU’s Scholarship Secretariat, thanked Karpowership Ghana for sustaining the programme and supporting students over the years.

Mavis Leagbe, a former TTU student and beneficiary of the scholarship scheme, also shared her experience with the initiative and encouraged the current recipients to remain focused on their education.

She urged the students to give their best and demonstrate through their academic performance and conduct that the investment in their education was worthwhile.

The scholarship programme forms part of Karpowership Ghana’s broader efforts to support education, develop local engineering expertise and prepare young professionals to contribute to Ghana’s energy security, industrial growth and sustainable development.
