Fire destroys tutor's office at Ho Nursing Training College

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed that a fire outbreak destroyed the Tutor's Office at the Ho Nursing Training College in the Volta Region, although firefighters acted swiftly to prevent the blaze from spreading to other parts of the institution.

According to the Fire Service, the incident occurred on Sunday, June 28, 2026, prompting an immediate emergency response after a distress call was received.

The rapid intervention by firefighters ensured the flames were brought under control within minutes, significantly reducing the extent of the damage and safeguarding adjoining offices and other sections of the academic facility.

In a statement issued by the Ghana National Fire Service, officials said personnel arrived at the scene shortly after receiving the emergency call and immediately began firefighting operations.

Their quick response successfully contained the fire before it could engulf additional offices or spread to other buildings within the nursing training college.

The Service praised the professionalism, commitment and efficiency of the firefighting crew, noting that their timely intervention helped avert what could have been a much larger disaster.

Although the fire was contained quickly, the Tutor's Office suffered significant damage.

The blaze destroyed office furniture, electrical appliances, books, documents and other essential equipment used in the administration of academic activities at the college.

The extent of the financial loss has not yet been disclosed, and authorities are expected to conduct a full assessment of the damage.

Despite the destruction caused by the fire, the Ghana National Fire Service confirmed that no injuries or fatalities were recorded.

The absence of casualties has been welcomed as a positive outcome, particularly considering the potential risks associated with fires in educational institutions.

The cause of the fire has not yet been officially announced, and investigations are expected to determine the circumstances that led to the outbreak.

Following the incident, the Ghana National Fire Service renewed its call on schools, public institutions and private organisations to prioritise fire prevention measures.

The Service encouraged institutions to install appropriate fire protection systems, including fire extinguishers, smoke detectors and fire alarms, while ensuring that all equipment is regularly inspected and maintained.

It also advised management of educational institutions to organise periodic fire safety training and emergency drills for staff and students to improve preparedness in the event of future emergencies.

The GNFS reiterated that prompt reporting of fire incidents and adherence to basic fire safety protocols remain essential in protecting lives, property and critical public infrastructure.
