Fuel Tanker Crash at Adubinso Kills Driver, Injures Mate and Destroys Seven Shops in Fire

A tragic fuel tanker crash at Adubinso in the Afigya Kwabre South Constituency of the Ashanti Region has claimed the life of a driver, left his mate critically injured, and destroyed more than seven shops in a devastating fire.

The incident occurred at about 12:30 p.m. when the tanker, reportedly travelling at high speed towards Pankrono, lost control while negotiating a sharp curve, overturned, and burst into flames.

The resulting fire spread rapidly to nearby commercial properties, engulfing several shops and destroying goods worth thousands of cedis.

Among the affected businesses were grocery stores, clothing shops, and outlets selling household items, leaving owners counting significant financial losses.

Eyewitnesses said the driver suffered severe burns and died at the scene before emergency responders could intervene.

The driver’s mate, who sustained critical injuries in the crash and fire, was rescued and rushed to hospital for emergency treatment.

Residents and business owners watched helplessly as the blaze consumed properties, with thick smoke billowing into the sky and attracting large crowds to the scene.

Emergency personnel later brought the fire under control to prevent it from spreading to additional buildings in the area.

The cause of the crash is yet to be officially determined, although preliminary accounts suggest excessive speed may have contributed to the tanker losing control on the curve.

Authorities are expected to launch an investigation into the incident while assessing the full extent of the damage caused by the fire.

The tragedy has renewed concerns about road safety, particularly involving fuel tankers and heavy-duty vehicles operating on major roads across the country.
