The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) is battling a major fire outbreak at a rubber factory located at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra, as heavy rainfall continues to complicate emergency response efforts across the capital.
Assistant Division Officer One (ADO1) Alex King Nartey of the GNFS Public Relations Department confirmed the incident during an interview on Adom FM's Dwaso Nsem, describing the blaze as serious and fast-spreading.
According to him, four fire tenders have been deployed to the scene as firefighters work to bring the inferno under control and prevent it from spreading to nearby properties.
Although the cause of the fire has not yet been established, Mr. Nartey assured the public that emergency personnel are working tirelessly to contain the situation.
He also disclosed that firefighters had successfully contained a separate fire outbreak at a residential building at Sakaman Blue Lagoon earlier in the day.
However, he explained that the heavy downpour has significantly affected firefighting operations across Accra.
"When the team got to Sakaman, they needed reinforcement, but when the Circle team moved, they were stranded at Kaneshie because of the flooding," he said.
Despite the difficult weather conditions, Mr. Nartey stressed that the Ghana National Fire Service remains fully committed to protecting lives and property.
In addition to responding to fire incidents, he revealed that firefighters have been deployed to several flood-prone communities across Accra to support ongoing rescue operations following the widespread flooding caused by the heavy rains.
The GNFS has urged the public to remain calm, avoid fire scenes to allow emergency personnel to work efficiently, and cooperate with rescue teams as they respond to emergencies across the city.
