Government Declares April 3 and April 6 as Public Holidays for Easter Celebrations

The Government of Ghana has declared Friday, April 3, and Monday, April 6, 2026, as statutory public holidays in observance of this year’s Easter celebrations.

In a statement issued on March 30, the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, announced that the two days—marked as Good Friday and Easter Monday—are to be observed nationwide.

The declaration enables Christians across the country to commemorate one of the most significant events in the Christian calendar, which marks the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Good Friday, observed on April 3, symbolizes the crucifixion of Christ, while Easter Monday, on April 6, extends the celebrations following Easter Sunday.

The announcement requires public institutions, businesses, and workers to adjust their schedules in accordance with statutory holiday regulations.

Easter in Ghana is traditionally celebrated with church services, family gatherings, and various social activities. Popular destinations such as Kwahu are expected to witness large crowds as part of the annual festivities.

The Interior Minister further urged the public to observe the holidays in accordance with the law while reflecting on the spiritual significance of the Easter season.
