Western Regional House Of Chiefs Honour Armah Kofi Buah For Promoting Peace

The Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson, has joined the Western Regional House of Chiefs, members of the Council of State, and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to honour the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, for his role in promoting peace in the region. The recognition highlights growing appreciation for conflict resolution efforts within Ghana’s traditional leadership structures.

The ceremony, held on Tuesday, April 14, recognised Mr. Buah’s efforts in resolving a longstanding leadership dispute within the House of Chiefs, which had persisted for over five years. The dispute had previously affected unity among traditional authorities and slowed coordinated development efforts in the region.

Chiefs who addressed the gathering praised the Minister for his hands-on approach, noting that he personally engaged the feuding factions, spending time listening and facilitating dialogue to achieve consensus. His mediation efforts were described as patient, inclusive, and focused on long-term reconciliation.

Nana Kobina Nketsia V recalled that Mr. Buah approached the mediation process not only in his official capacity but also as a native of the region, appealing to unity and shared identity. This dual approach, combining formal authority with personal connection, was seen as instrumental in building trust among the parties involved.

In addition to his peacebuilding efforts, the Minister was also commended for his contributions to the overall development of the Western Region. Stakeholders noted that peace and stability are essential foundations for attracting investment and accelerating regional growth.

Mr. Nelson, in his remarks, expressed appreciation to the chiefs for recognising the Minister’s work and lauded them for embracing unity after years of division. He emphasised that sustained collaboration among traditional leaders is key to maintaining peace and driving development initiatives.

He further urged traditional leaders to continue working together to advance development across their communities. According to him, unity among chiefs plays a critical role in supporting government policies and fostering grassroots development.

The event was attended by key stakeholders, including Maxwell Boakye, as well as other regional officials. The gathering underscored a renewed commitment among leaders to strengthen cooperation and promote lasting peace in the Western Region.
