A 28-year-old Ghanaian student, Michealina Mary Stampoulous Dankwa, has been crowned Miss Africa-Russia 2025 after emerging victorious in a highly competitive pageant held in Russia in September 2025.
The prestigious competition brought together contestants from several African countries residing and studying in Russia, providing a platform to celebrate African culture, leadership, talent and diversity while fostering stronger cultural ties between Africa and Russia.
Speaking in an exclusive interview following her victory, Michealina attributed her success to the unwavering support, encouragement and contributions of the Ghanaian community in the Russian Federation.
Filled with gratitude and excitement, she described the victory as a collective achievement for Ghanaians both at home and abroad.
“One of the major challenges was coordinating and rehearsing via the internet as my volunteers were in Moscow while I am based in Ufa,” she revealed.
She explained that mobilising votes and support from different countries within a limited timeframe also proved challenging. However, she said the experience strengthened her determination and resilience throughout the competition.
According to Michealina, her decision to participate in the pageant was motivated by a desire to represent Ghana on an international platform and showcase the country’s rich culture, beauty and resilience.
“My main drive was to represent Ghana on an international stage and showcase our culture, beauty and resilience,” she said.
She added that the pageant also provided an opportunity to promote her social impact initiative, “Different, Not Broken,” a project dedicated to supporting inclusivity and advocacy for children with special needs, particularly those living with autism.
Miss Africa-Russia is a cultural and diplomatic pageant designed for African women living or studying in Russia. The event goes beyond conventional beauty contests by emphasizing leadership, cultural representation, public speaking and community engagement.
Contestants compete in several categories, including traditional wear, talent performances, designer wear presentations and public speaking sessions.
Michealina faced strong competition from representatives of several countries, including Angola, Nigeria, Kenya, Namibia, South Sudan and Haiti.
“Each contestant brought her own culture, talent and story, enriching the competition with deep diversity and mutual inspiration,” she said.
Clarifying misconceptions about the event, she noted that the pageant is specifically designed for African women residing in Russia and does not include Russian nationals as contestants.
“It celebrates African identities within Russia and aims to strengthen cultural ties between the two communities,” she explained.
Reflecting on the judging process, Michealina expressed confidence in the fairness and transparency of the competition, stating that contestants were evaluated on multiple criteria beyond physical appearance.
“Every contestant was judged not just on beauty, but on how well she represented her country and communicated her vision,” she said.
According to her, the judging panel assessed participants based on authenticity, cultural representation, confidence, talent, communication skills and overall poise.
Beyond the crown, Michealina hopes her achievement will inspire young women to pursue their dreams fearlessly and embrace opportunities that challenge them to grow.
“My advice is simple: never be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Believe in yourself because confidence and purpose are your greatest crowns,” she said.
She further encouraged women to recognise that genuine beauty is reflected in service, compassion and authenticity.
Providing insight into her background, Michealina described herself as someone raised in a close-knit Ghanaian family that values integrity, service and ambition.
She is currently pursuing a degree in International Relations in Ufa, Russia, while actively advocating for the inclusion and empowerment of persons with special needs.
“I am passionate about using my platform to uplift those whose voices are often unheard, especially people with autism,” she stated.
Asked whether she believes her participation successfully promoted Ghana on the international stage, Michealina responded with confidence.
“Absolutely. From my royal entry in traditional kente representing Northern Ghana to my talent performance highlighting inclusivity, I carried Ghana with me on that stage,” she said.
She explained that every aspect of her presentation was carefully designed to showcase Ghana’s cultural heritage, values and diversity to an international audience.
“I believe I gave the world a taste of Ghana’s cultural richness, resilience and compassion. Winning the crown was not just a personal victory; it was Ghana’s victory on an international stage,” she added.
Her triumph has been celebrated by members of the Ghanaian community in Russia and serves as another example of how young Ghanaians continue to excel and make meaningful contributions on the global stage.
As Miss Africa-Russia 2025, Michealina is expected to use her platform to promote cultural diplomacy, advocate for social inclusion and strengthen connections between African communities and their host countries.
