Former District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atiwa/Atiwa East in the Eastern Region, Kwabena Panin Nkansah, has passed away.
The sad news was announced by the Member of Parliament for Atiwa East, Abena Osei-Asare, in a Facebook post on Thursday, where she described his death as a major loss to both the district and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to the MP, Mr Nkansah died on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, although the cause of death has not yet been disclosed.
Madam Osei-Asare paid tribute to the late former DCE, describing him as one of the pioneering figures who contributed significantly to the development and recognition of Atiwa East during its early years as a district.
“This loss is deeply personal to many of us in Atiwa East and within the NPP fraternity. Hon. Panin Nkansah was not only our first DCE; he was one of the foundational figures of our district,” she wrote.
She noted that under his leadership, Atiwa East gained national recognition and distinguished itself among some of Ghana’s more established districts through development initiatives and local governance efforts.
According to the MP, the late Kwabena Panin Nkansah played a crucial role in laying the administrative and developmental foundations of the district during his tenure.
Madam Osei-Asare also reflected on their professional relationship, describing him as experienced, supportive, and deeply committed to the progress of both Atiwa East and the NPP.
She praised his dedication to public service and his contributions to grassroots political organisation within the constituency and the wider Eastern Region.
The passing of the former DCE has reportedly generated reactions from party members, residents, and political figures within the district, many of whom have expressed condolences to his family and the NPP fraternity.
Mr Nkansah is remembered by many in Atiwa East for his role in local governance, community development, and political leadership during his time in office.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in the coming days.
