Ghana’s High Commission in South Africa has announced the second batch of Ghanaian nationals approved to return home under the ongoing voluntary evacuation programme, with the group scheduled to depart on Sunday, June 7, 2026.
The announcement comes after the mission temporarily suspended registration for the repatriation exercise to enable officials to process and verify the large number of applications received from Ghanaians seeking to return home.
In a notice issued to the Ghanaian community in South Africa, the High Commission outlined detailed travel arrangements and requirements for those selected for the next phase of the exercise.
According to the mission, all approved evacuees are required to report to the Ghana High Commission in Pretoria on the evening of Saturday, June 6, 2026, for verification, briefing sessions, and the completion of pre-departure formalities.
The mission also urged individuals whose names appear on the approved list but who no longer intend to travel to inform the High Commission by noon on Thursday, June 4. It explained that such notifications would allow other eligible applicants to be considered for available seats on the flight.
As part of the travel guidelines, each passenger will be permitted to check in two bags, with a maximum weight of 23 kilograms per bag. The High Commission stressed that luggage exceeding the approved weight limit would not be accepted.
Parents and guardians travelling with children have also been advised to carry all required travel documents, including consent letters where applicable, Road-to-Health cards, and child weighing cards to avoid delays during departure procedures.
The mission further disclosed that applicants who have been issued Emergency Travel Certificates (ETCs) will receive the documents at the airport on the day of departure.
The voluntary evacuation programme is being coordinated by Ghana’s High Commission in Pretoria in collaboration with South African authorities and other relevant stakeholders.
The exercise forms part of efforts to facilitate the safe and orderly return of Ghanaian nationals who have chosen to leave South Africa following recent xenophobic attacks and security concerns affecting sections of the migrant community.
The High Commission has assured members of the Ghanaian community that the repatriation programme remains ongoing and that additional phases will be announced after the processing and verification of pending applications are completed.
