IGP promotes 7 officers for role in Tema anti-robbery operation

The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has promoted seven officers of the Tema Regional Police Command in recognition of their outstanding performance during a recent anti-robbery operation in Tema. The move is seen as part of efforts by police leadership to motivate personnel and reward acts of bravery and professionalism in the line of duty.

The promotions follow the officers’ swift response to a robbery attack on a mobile money vendor at Tema Community 5, which led to the shooting of two suspected robbers and the retrieval of a firearm, ammunition and other exhibits. The incident reportedly caused panic in the area, but the rapid intervention by the police helped to prevent further harm and restore calm.

Security analysts say the operation highlights the growing threat of mobile money-related robberies in urban areas, making the response by the officers particularly significant in maintaining public confidence in law enforcement.

The officers elevated to their next ranks include Chief Inspector Enoch Nartey Nuer, Inspector Gershon Dekpey, Inspector Prince Asante, Sergeant Lukman Mohammed, Sergeant Eugene Kuudouru, Corporal Jerome Akator and Lance Corporal Jonathan Sewurah. Their elevation reflects not only their role in this specific operation but also their broader commitment to duty within the service.

Mr Yohuno, together with members of the Police Management Board (POMAB), congratulated the officers and praised their bravery, discipline and dedication to duty. The recognition ceremony also served as an opportunity to reinforce the importance of professionalism and teamwork within the police force.

The Police Management Board emphasized that such acts of courage are critical in the fight against crime and serve as an example to other officers across the country.

The IGP also urged them to see their promotion as a call to greater responsibility while encouraging all personnel of the Ghana Police Service to continue serving with professionalism and commitment. He reiterated the need for vigilance, integrity, and community engagement as key pillars in modern policing.

The development is expected to boost morale within the service and reassure the public of the police administration’s commitment to recognizing and rewarding excellence in crime-fighting efforts.
