Interior Minister stresses importance of partnership between traditional authorities and security services in maintaining law and order

The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has underscored the importance of strong collaboration between traditional authorities and security agencies in maintaining peace, law and order, and promoting national unity.

The Minister made the remarks on Monday as he continued his working visit to the Volta Region, engaging key stakeholders and inspecting infrastructure projects under the Ministry of the Interior.

As part of the visit, Mr. Muntaka paid a courtesy call on the chiefs and elders of the Asogli Traditional Area in Ho. He commended the traditional leadership for their contribution to peace, security, and development in the region.

He emphasized that partnerships with traditional authorities remain critical in addressing emerging security concerns and preserving the stability for which the Volta Region is widely recognized.

During the tour, the Interior Minister also inspected the ongoing Ghana Immigration Service Regional Headquarters project in Ho. He was briefed on the progress of work and urged contractors to complete the project on schedule while maintaining high construction standards.

According to him, the new facility will significantly improve the operational efficiency of the Ghana Immigration Service and enhance service delivery across the region once completed.

Mr. Muntaka further visited the Ho Central Prison, where he interacted with prison officers and inmates while assessing conditions at the correctional facility. The visit allowed him to gain firsthand insight into challenges facing the prison system and discuss possible improvements in infrastructure, inmate welfare, and rehabilitation programmes.

The Minister reaffirmed the government's commitment to strengthening security and correctional institutions nationwide to ensure they are adequately resourced to effectively perform their duties.

The Volta Region visit forms part of the Minister’s broader nationwide engagement with agencies and stakeholders under the Ministry of the Interior, aimed at improving security, boosting institutional performance, and supporting national development.
