Mahama reshuffles his ministers, Ayariga nominated to Local Government

President John Dramani Mahama has announced a ministerial reshuffle, reassigning key members of his administration as part of efforts to strengthen government operations and improve service delivery.

Under the latest changes, Ahmed Ibrahim has been moved from the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs to head the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources.

The President has also nominated Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga as the new Minister-designate for the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, subject to parliamentary approval.

The reshuffle marks one of the most significant changes to President Mahama's ministerial team in recent months and is expected to influence the implementation of key government programmes, particularly in local governance, decentralisation, housing, water resources and infrastructure development.

Ahmed Ibrahim served as Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, where he spearheaded initiatives aimed at improving sanitation, strengthening local governance systems and supporting the government's decentralisation agenda.

In his new role as Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, he is expected to oversee government policies relating to public infrastructure, affordable housing, water supply and sanitation projects across the country.

Meanwhile, Mahama Ayariga's nomination to lead the Local Government Ministry comes while he serves as Majority Leader in Parliament. If approved by Parliament's Appointments Committee and the House, he will assume responsibility for overseeing local assemblies, traditional affairs and the implementation of government policies at the district level.
