No Military lands given to Ibrahim Mahama — Defence Ministry dismisses claims

The Deputy Minister of Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi, has strongly refuted allegations that portions of military land have been allocated to prominent business executive Ibrahim Mahama for private development, describing such claims as false, misleading, and without any factual basis.

In a Facebook post dated Wednesday, April 29, 2026, Mr. Genfi urged the public to disregard the circulating reports, emphasizing that no military lands have been handed over to any private individual. He clarified that the narrative being spread is “completely untrue” and does not reflect the reality of ongoing developments within the Ghana Armed Forces.

According to the Deputy Minister, what is actually underway is a self-help housing initiative spearheaded by the Ghana Armed Forces. The project is designed to replace outdated, colonial-era buildings and dilapidated structures within Burma Camp, the main military installation in Accra.

He explained that the initiative aims to significantly improve accommodation and living conditions for military personnel, many of whom currently reside in aging facilities that no longer meet modern housing standards. The project is part of broader efforts to enhance the welfare of service members who play a critical role in safeguarding the nation.

In support of this initiative, Mr. Ibrahim Mahama, Chief Executive Officer of Dzata Group Holding Limited, has made a substantial financial contribution of GH¢120 million. The donation will fund the construction of 10 residential blocks, each comprising 16 housing units, as part of the redevelopment programme.

Mr. Genfi emphasized that this contribution is purely philanthropic and aimed at supporting the welfare of military personnel, not tied to any form of land allocation or private development rights.

To further advance the project, a fundraising luncheon was held at the Ghana Military Academy over the weekend. The event brought together key stakeholders from corporate Ghana, development partners, and supporters of the Armed Forces. It was chaired by renowned business leader Sam Jonah, and saw multiple donations and pledges toward the housing initiative.

The Ghana Armed Forces expressed deep appreciation to all contributors, noting that the project represents a major step toward improving the welfare and living standards of its personnel. Officials stressed that the initiative is strictly welfare-focused and should not be misinterpreted as an attempt to transfer or allocate military lands to private interests.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to transparency and urged the public to rely on verified information, warning against the spread of misinformation that could undermine confidence in national institutions.
