President John Dramani Mahama has announced that new road construction and rehabilitation projects will soon commence in Zongo communities across the country as part of government’s broader infrastructure development agenda.
According to the President, the initiative is aimed at improving road networks and living conditions in underserved communities while boosting economic activity and accessibility.
Speaking during the Eid-ul-Adha celebrations in Accra on Wednesday, May 27, President Mahama revealed that the first phase of the programme would begin in the Zongo communities in Koforidua before expanding to other parts of the country.
“Very soon, construction and rehabilitation of roads and other infrastructure projects will begin in several Zongo communities across the country,” he stated.
“We are starting with the Koforidua Zongo area; the road network and similar projects will be replicated in other Zongo communities,” the President added.
President Mahama explained that the intervention forms part of ongoing efforts by government to improve infrastructure in densely populated and historically underserved communities.
He noted that better road networks would enhance transportation, improve access to essential services, and support local businesses and socio-economic activities within Zongo communities.
The announcement comes amid renewed government emphasis on urban infrastructure development and inclusive national growth.
Zongo communities across Ghana have over the years called for improved infrastructure, including roads, drainage systems, schools, healthcare facilities, and sanitation services.
The planned projects are expected to improve mobility, reduce transportation difficulties during the rainy season, and contribute to overall community development.
Government officials are expected to provide further details on timelines, funding, and the specific communities to benefit under the nationwide programme in the coming weeks.
