President Mahama appoints three new Deputy Comptrollers-General for Immigration Service

President John Dramani Mahama has approved the appointment of three senior officers of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) as substantive Deputy Comptrollers-General, a move aimed at strengthening the leadership structure and operational effectiveness of the Service.

The appointments, made upon the recommendation of the GIS Governing Council and with the advice of the Public Services Commission, confirm the officers in substantive leadership roles after serving in acting capacities.

The Ghana Immigration Service described the appointments as recognition of the officers’ dedication, professionalism, leadership qualities, and longstanding contributions to the growth and development of the institution.

Under the new appointments, the officers will oversee critical directorates responsible for the administration, operations, legal affairs, and strategic functions of the Service.

Deputy Comptroller-General Evelyn Lolonyo Lostu has been appointed to lead the Finance and Administration Directorate, where she will be responsible for overseeing the Service’s financial management, human resource administration, logistics, and other institutional support functions.

Her role will be central to ensuring sound financial governance and efficient resource management within the Ghana Immigration Service.

Deputy Comptroller-General Faisal Disu has been appointed to head the Command Post and Operations Directorate.

In this position, he will supervise operational activities across the country, coordinate immigration enforcement efforts, strengthen border security operations, and support the implementation of national migration management policies.

His directorate plays a vital role in maintaining the integrity of Ghana’s borders and ensuring compliance with immigration laws.

Deputy Comptroller-General Philip Peter Andoh has been appointed to lead the Legal, Research and Monitoring Directorate.

The directorate is responsible for providing legal guidance, conducting policy and operational research, monitoring institutional performance, and supporting evidence-based decision-making within the Service.

His appointment is expected to enhance the Service’s legal and policy frameworks while strengthening monitoring and evaluation systems.

According to the Ghana Immigration Service, the appointments reflect the confidence reposed in the officers based on their distinguished service records and demonstrated leadership capabilities.

The Service noted that the three officers have consistently exhibited professionalism, integrity, and commitment to duty throughout their careers, earning the trust of both management and stakeholders.

Their elevation to substantive positions is expected to provide stability and continuity within the leadership structure of the institution.

The Comptroller-General of Immigration, Samuel Basintale Amadu, congratulated the newly appointed Deputy Comptrollers-General and expressed optimism about their ability to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of the Service.

He praised their commitment to excellence and dedication to national service, emphasizing that their expertise would be instrumental in driving ongoing reforms and improving institutional performance.

Mr. Amadu noted that strong leadership remains critical to enhancing operational efficiency, promoting accountability, and addressing emerging migration and border security challenges.

The Comptroller-General further stressed that the appointments align with broader efforts to strengthen the Ghana Immigration Service as a key institution responsible for migration management, border control, and national security.

He expressed confidence that the newly appointed deputies would help deepen good governance practices, improve service delivery, and support the government’s security and development agenda.

Mr. Amadu also assured the officers of the full support of management and staff as they assume their new responsibilities.

The appointments come at a time when the Ghana Immigration Service continues to play an increasingly important role in managing migration, combating transnational crime, facilitating legitimate travel, and safeguarding Ghana’s territorial borders.

With the confirmation of the three Deputy Comptrollers-General, the Service is expected to further strengthen its leadership capacity and enhance its ability to respond effectively to evolving national and regional security demands.
