The U.S. Embassy in Accra has announced that it will temporarily suspend most routine consular services from July 20 to July 31, 2026, to facilitate scheduled maintenance works at its facilities.
According to a notice issued by the Embassy, normal consular operations are expected to resume on Monday, August 3, 2026.
The temporary suspension will affect a range of routine services provided by the Consular Section, with the Embassy urging applicants to plan their visits accordingly during the maintenance period.
Despite the temporary suspension, the Embassy clarified that certain services will remain available.
Applicants who have already received email notifications confirming that their U.S. passports or Consular Reports of Birth Abroad (CRBA) are ready for collection will still be able to pick up their documents on Thursdays between 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
In addition, the Embassy confirmed that adult passport renewal applications submitted through its designated drop box will continue to be processed throughout the maintenance period.
The Embassy also announced that walk-in services for notarial services and Consular Reports of Death Abroad (CRODA) will not be available while the maintenance works are underway.
Individuals requiring these services have been advised to wait until normal operations resume in August or monitor further updates from the Embassy.
The U.S. Embassy encouraged passport applicants and other customers to follow the guidance provided on its official website regarding passport renewal procedures and other consular services.
It also advised the public to check the Embassy's online platforms for any additional updates or changes to the maintenance schedule before making travel arrangements to the Embassy.
The temporary suspension forms part of scheduled facility maintenance aimed at improving the Embassy's infrastructure and ensuring the continued efficient delivery of consular services once operations fully resume.
