Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has participated in Guyana’s 60th Independence Day celebrations, highlighting growing diplomatic ties and shared values between Ghana and Guyana.
The celebrations commenced with an interfaith service held on the lawns of the State House on Tuesday, May 26, bringing together religious leaders and worshippers from the Hindu, Muslim, and Christian communities.
The ceremony emphasised themes of national unity, peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and collective development, reflecting Guyana’s multicultural identity and commitment to social harmony.
Following the interfaith service, Vice President Opoku-Agyemang joined Guyana’s leadership at a private reception hosted at the presidential residence.
Among the dignitaries present were Guyanese President Irfaan Ali, Prime Minister Mark Phillips, former Heads of State, senior government officials, diplomats, and other distinguished guests.
The engagements were characterised by cordial exchanges, diplomatic courtesies, and discussions reflecting the strong and friendly relations between the two countries.
The Independence Day commemoration served not only as a national milestone for Guyana but also as an opportunity to reinforce international partnerships and regional cooperation.
Officials at the event stressed the importance of unity across faiths, generations, and cultures as essential pillars for national progress and sustainable development.
The participation of Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang further underscored Ghana’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Guyana and deepening cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Ghana and Guyana have maintained longstanding diplomatic relations rooted in shared historical experiences, cultural connections, and common interests within the Global South.
Both countries continue to collaborate through international and regional platforms on issues including economic development, education, energy, governance, and South-South cooperation.
